Let's face it, cardigans get a 'bad rap' and always have, but I find that they are a good utility piece and can be used as a replacement for jackets or waistcoats as seen here.
Chinos are a great trouser type on men, they are versatile and lightweight and (like denim) can be worn in many different styles depending on what the wearer is aiming to pull off.
How I like to style my cardigan
I really like wearing a shirt and tie and in this case I have selected a blue knitted tie that works well in the more informal look, this compliments the cardigan so as to keep the look relaxed.(By the way... Hello Keith!! So happy to have you rejoin the personal style blogosphere...your male perspective has been missed!! ;) As far as cardigans go?? I have to say I'm a "sweater girl" all the way!! Robin, on the other hand, doesn't wear his too often outside of home; I think someone's comment that it looked "grandpa" scared him off a bit. Hopefully your spiffy look here will have him changing his mind again!!

Hi Monika!
Deletethere's always the 'grandpa' stigma that's attached to cardigan wearing!
I myself find it a really under-used part of a man's wardrobe, I'm sure Robin will wear his with pride!!
Enjoy the rest of your week

Hi Keith!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a cardigan wearer---partially because I've knit him some of these sweaters, so he loves showing off my craft (isn't that nice?)

Jodie, that's really cool.. Kudos to you for your obvious talent!!!
DeleteI bet he loves wearing them.
Best wishes

Well Keith, this is a brave topic isn't it? As you say, cardigans do get a bad rap - reminders of our grandad I suppose. Anyhoo, you've turned it around with those chinos and sneakers I'd say. And the perfect foil has to be the tie which really ups the style factor. Handled like a pro!

Hi Anna, your too kind.
DeleteYou describe my outfit exactly how I intended to style it and the tie does give it a smarter feature. Thanks for the critique!

You'll love this - I bought this style of cardigan, in the Mens section of Tkmaxx, for myslef! Love it...
ReplyDeleteHaha... that's brilliant!
DeleteI don't think a certain blogger I know has ventured in to the Men's section to look for inspiration yet.
If she reads this, it could lead to a 'Thing's women should be buying in the Men's section' post, (I can see it now).
Have a great week MT

Consider that a draft post in the making - don't go telling everyone our ideas!! 😂😂
DeleteI must admit Keith I have a cardigan I call my old man sweater. I work from home so I wear it all day and I have to say it's like having my favorite soft and comforting pillow with me. Ha ha ha. Now I've never thought of wearing a dress shirt and tie with a cardigan but damn you really nailed it. This is really a great outfit.
ReplyDeleteHey Robin,
DeleteLOVE the description of your cardigan..haha!
I think we now appreciate the items we laughed at when were younger. I love a nice pair of brogues or a tie etc... certainly didn't when I was in my twenties. I guess we become more discerning about what we like to wear as we get older.
Have a great week!
Keith
Well Keith, all I know about menswear is what look good on me, hahaha. In the end, genders blend and that is fantastic. I would make myself a skirt out of your trousers and wear the rest tied up with a belt.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have you back
